43% MORE HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONALS CONCERNED ABOUT HUMAN ELEMENT IN AI THAN PEERS
More human resources professionals in China perceive a need for human elements in AI recruitment processes according to Hays, the global leader in workforce solutions and specialist recruitment.
The survey conducted in late 2023 polled 1,833 HR and non-HR professionals across Asia to gather feedback about the use of AI in recruitment. The differences between both groups were then analysed to highlight concerns that arose.
When polled about the primary challenges faced when implementing AI, the top three factors that surfaced were as follows:
• 32% of human resources respondents were concerned about the lack of human touch and personalisation
• 29% cited issues with data privacy and security
• 27% mentioned concerns with ensuring fairness and mitigating biases in the algorithms
• 29% cited issues with data privacy and security
• 27% mentioned concerns with ensuring fairness and mitigating biases in the algorithms
Additionally, 43% more HR professionals expressed a desire for more personalisation and a human touch in AI-powered recruitment tools compared to non-HR peers. It remains to be seen how AI solutions may incorporate more human-like interactions or enable strategic human elements to be retained across the recruitment process.
Unlike their HR-peers, non-HR professionals were most concerned about ensuring fairness and mitigating biases in AI algorithms used in recruitment.
“55% of employers in China currently use AI to assist them in various stages of recruitment. Though acceptance rates regarding AI usage in recruitment are generally positive, there are still underlying concerns that require attention,” said Sue Wei, Managing Director at Hays Greater China. “Developing unbiased AI systems, with ongoing monitoring to ensure fairness will be pertinent towards further AI implementation in recruitment.”
